Tiede on koettanut keksiä virvatulille jos jonkinlaisia
selityksiä. Eräs väite on, että kyseessä olisi kemiluminenssin
avulla hohtava mesisienen rihmasto. Toisen selityksen mukaan
kyseessä on itsestään syttynyt metaani, jota muodostuu bakteerien
hajottaessa eloperäistä ainesta anaerobisissa oloissa.
Mutta totuushan on, että virvatulet ovat noiduttuja ja siellä
missä ne loimuavat, on kätkettynä aarre! Aarnivalkeat, virvatulien
toinen nimi, tarkoittaakin aarretulia. (Epäilen, että tieteelliset
sepitelmät ovat vain keksijöidensä yritys vähentää muiden ihmisten
kiinnostusta virvatuliin saadakseen kaikki aarteet itselleen!)
Kyseessä ovat kalpeat liekit, jotka eivät lämmitä ja tapaavat
piilotella ihmissilmältä, ilmestyäkseen tarkoin valittuina hetkinä
aarteen sijoille metsämaille ja soille.
Mutta jos et tätä usko, voit mennä vaikka itse katsomaan...
Virvaliekit ovat kuitenkin hentoisia ja voit nähdä niitä vain
hämärän laskeuduttua. Ota mukaasi taskulamppu. Kätkö on
parhaiten löydettävissä hämärässä/pimeässä.
Kätkön lähestyminen kannattaa aloittaa Kerintien ja Isomäenkadun
kulmasta, josta alkaa kevyenliikenteen väylä. Jonkin matkaa sitä
kuljettuasi, tulee oikealle viistosti haarautuva hiekkatie. Kulje
sitä pitkin suoraan, jonkin matkan päässä vasemmalle haarautuu
palstaviljelyaluuen tie ja hiukan sen jälkeen metsäpolku, jota
pitkin pääset aloituskoordinaatteihin. Alkukoordinaateissa ala
tähyillä virvatulia. Seuraa niitä, kunnes saavut itsensä Kratin
luokse.
Krattihan on vanhassa suomalaisessa mytologiassa pelottava,
huutava kummitusolento, joka säilyttää aarteita ja hallitsee maahan
kaivettuja rikkauksia. Kratti kuitenkin saattaa luovuttaa sinulle
aarteensa, mikäli käyttäydyt nöyrästi ja kumarrat oikein syvään
hänen edessään... Onnea matkaan!
Science has tried to think up all kinds of explanations for
will-o'-the wisps. One of the claims is that they're the roots of
certain mushrooms that shine because of chemiluminence. Others say
that it's the metan gas burning, which is formed when bacteria
break down organic substances in anaerobic conditions.
But the truth naturally is, that these fires are bewitched, and
where their flames shine there is hidden a treasure! (I think that
the scientific blah-blah is just an attempt of the scientist to
draw the attention away from the fires so that they can snatch all
the treasures themselves!)
The fires in question are pale, cold flames, which tend to hide
from the human eye, to appear only rarely in forests and marshlands
on the places where treasures are hidden.
But if you don't believe this, you can go to see for yourself...
However, the will-o'-the wisps are very vague, and you can find
them only after the darkness has settled over the lands. Take
with yourself a flashlight. You can find the cache only when
it's dim/dark.
In the corner of Kerintie and Isomäenkatu streets starts a
cyclists' lane. Walk along it, until you come to a sand road which
parts to the right. Follow this road and on your left will be a
road to small gardening plots and after that a path to the forest.
You can follow this path to get to the starting point, where you
should start to scan for the fires. Follow them, until you arrive
to Kratti. Kratti is a scary, screaming and ghostly being in the
Finnish mythology, who is the keeper of treasures and guards the
richnesses hidden in the ground. But it may be, that Kratti agrees
to give you his treasure is you're very humble and bend down very
deeply in front of him... Good luck!
