Moni meistä on kuullut Verisestä Sunnuntaista (Bloody Sunday), ehkä sen vuoksi että U2 teki siitä laulun. Mutta tiedätkö mikä on Verinen Kiirastorstai?

Verisen Kiirastorstain päivämäärä on 28.3.1918. Kun olin lapsi 1970- ja 1980-luvulla, ei koulun historiankijoissa kerrottu Verisestä Kiirastorstaista mitään. Sisällissota oli vielä tuolloin arvatenkin avoin haava, koska niin monet sen kokeneet henkilöt olivat vielä elossa. Vielä tälläkin vuosituhannella tuolla sodalla on useita nimiä, riippuen siitä puhuvan henkilön taustasta.

Verinen Kiirastorstai oli osa Tampereen taistelua 15.3.-6.4.1918. Tämä taistelu oli kaikkien aikojen suurin Pohjoismaissa, jos sitä mitataan siihen osallistuneiden ihmisten määrällä. Punaisten ja valkoisten yhteismäärä taistelussa oli yli 30 000, ja heistä useat tuhannet kaatuivat noina viikkoina.

28.3.1918 olivat punaiset asettuneet asemiin Kalevankankaan harjulle. Valkoinen armeija hyökkäsi idästä ja päivän aikana he onnistuivat valloittamaan koko harjun, mutta hinta siitä oli kova - noin 1000 miestä kuoli. Siitä nimi Verinen Kiirastorstai. Nykyisin ei ole paljoakaan jäljellä muistuttamassa meitä tuosta taistelusta. Vain kaksi muistomerkkiä on pystytetty sodassa kuolleiden muistoksi, toinen valkoisille, toinen punaisille.

Ensimmäinen tehtäväsi on etsiä nuo muistomerkit. Laske valkoisten muistomerkiltä tuntemattomien lukumäärä (=A).
Punaisten muistomerkillä poimi etupuolelta sekä suurin luku (=B) että pienin luku (=C) ja muistomerkin takapuolelta nimien määrä (=D).

Lopulliset koordinaatit ovat:

N 61° 29.xxx, missä xxx = A + B + D - 1412
E 23° 47.yyy, missä yyy = (A * C) - D - 26641

Koska tämä kätkö on myös geolodju (letterbox hybrid) voit etsiä sen myös ilman GPS-vastaanotintasi.

Geocache Description in English:

Many of us have heard about Bloody Sunday, perhaps because U2 made a song about it. But do you know what was Bloody Maundy Thursday?

The date of Bloody Maundy Thursday is 28.3.1918. When I was a kid in 1970's and 1980's there was nothing about Bloody Maundy Thursday in school history books. I guess the Civil War of Finland was still an open wound at that time, as so many people who had experienced it, were still alive. Even in this century that war has several names, depending on the background of the person who talks about it.

Bloody Maundy Thursday was part of the Battle of Tampere in 15.3.-6.4.1918. The battle itself was the biggest ever in Nordic countries, if measured by number of soldiers that participated in it. The total number of reds and whites in battles of Tampere was over 30 000, and several thousand people died during those weeks.

In Kalevankangas, the red army was in emplacements on the top of the ridge in 28.3.1918. White army attacked from east and during that day they managed to conquer the ridge, but the price was high - about 1000 men got killed. That's why the name Bloody Maundy Thursday was given to this particular date. The loss of reds was appreciably smaller. Nowadays there's not much left to remind us of the battle of Kalevankangas. Only two memorials have been eracted, one to whites and another to reds, who died in civil war.

Your first task is to find those statues.
In the memorial of whites, count the number of unknowns (=A). Unknown is tuntematon in finnish.
In the memorial of reds, pick the biggest number in front of the memorial (=B), the smallest number in front of the memorial (=C) and the number of names in the backside of the memorial (=D).

The final coordinates are:

N 61° 29.xxx, where xxx = A + B + D - 1412
E 23° 47.yyy, where yyy = (A * C) - D - 26641

Because this cache is also a letterbox hybrid, you may search it without your GPSr too.
