There was a large void of caches heading SW along Hwy 169/60 out of Mankato. This stretch of highway is a main artery heading to western states out of S. Minnesota, and could provide many hitchhiking opportunities for travel bugs heading west.
Eagle's Nest County Park in Watonwan County is a hidden jewel for hikers & bushwackers. Beautiful, expansive 80-acre woods criss-crossed with large streams, creeks, and gullies. During the wet months, the tranquil streams churn up with relaxing rapids.
Paths of all types are spider-webbed throughout. Most paths are rustic, and just when you think you are following a deer trail, you'll find a trestle bridge to carry you over a stream.
I heartily suggest checking the map in the parking lot, which shows the different hiking areas of the park. Trailheads both on the left and right side of the map offer very different experiences and adventures.
The park also includes picnic enclosure with BBQ grills and camping. Wonderful park to spend half a day picnicing & tromping around with kids. They'll have many things to explore.
