Geocache Description:

THE TRAILS WILL BE CLOSED FOR HUNTING SEASON IN OCTOBER THROUGH JANUARY EXCEPT FOR SUNDAYS

The cache is located near old farm ruins that contain close by house and a small unusual structure that remains a mystery. Although called a sub-terrain vaulted structure, no one has been able to explain what this was for—plenty of theories from root cellar, pump house, Dutch oven, or ice storage house, but none fit. This is Mystery Structure #2 since the first very similar structure can be found near the Agrarian Antiquites Cache. HELP SOLVE THE MYSTERY! Please respect the ruins--the cache is not in any of the ruins

Although the cache is in Pennsylvania, its less than 500 feet to the Delaware border. Best access is from Delaware. Park at the Delaware Park Office on Thompkins Station Road and Chambers Rock Road. Walk north on Thonpkins Station Raod about 1/4 mile, then take the trail off to the left (Now called Charles Bailey Trail) that goes down to White Clay Creek. After another 1/4 mile, follow the Hunters Trail that goes off to the right, climbing a large hill. This trail makes a large loop and returns to White Clay Creek. Half the trail is in Delaware and half is in Pa. (This is unmarked trail so you may want to print out the park map scan I have attached which has all the unmarked trails shown) At some point you have to bushwhack, but no more than 250 to 500 feet. When the cache was placed, it was best ( but longer) to stay on the trail until you cross old sunken farm road and then kind of follow it, bushwhacking the easiest path. [UPDATE 1/1/2014: Old farm road no longer passable, just bushwhack any time] You can return the way you came or continue on Hunters Trail for a nice return loop.

The new “Dam Trolls Could have Lived Here” cache is only 0.65 miles due east from this cache. However, its all bushwhack through some difficult terrain. I’ve done it (in late March before there is much undergrowth), but don’t recommend it unless you want a real challenge. There will be a lot of multi-flora rose to avoid. Its longer but much easier to return to Thompkins Station Road and start from there
