Geocache Description:

A GREAT URBAN PARK WITH MUCH TO SEE AND DO

The main park in Buffalo's historic Olmsted Parks System is Delaware Park, the focal point of the 1901 Pan American Exposition. Today, Delaware Park serves as Buffalo's primary place for citywide recreation and leisure. Both the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society building are in this park. Delaware Park is an archetypal representation of America's Victorian and industrial era of the late 19th century.

Delaware Park is centrally located in the northern part of City of Buffalo. It is the most prestigious park of the City's Olmsted Parks System. Delaware Park's Mirror Lake is immediately adjacent to the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society. It is connected to Hoyt Lake, another large water body in the park, there is across the street from the internationally acclaimed Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Both lakes, the public buildings that surround the lakes, and a Japanese Garden are easily accessible to the public.

The park is also known for Shakespeare in Delaware Park. These performances have been a Buffalo summer tradition since 1976. It is the country's second most successful outdoor Shakespeare festival in terms of audience, attracting an average of 50,000 patrons each summer.
