The twin cites of Jefferson and West Jefferson are nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. They are classic small towns, with warm, friendly people. This is another in a series of caches designed to introduce others to the warmth and charm of this area.
West Jefferson is emerging as a haven for multi-talented artists and craftsmen who represent many different genres. All you have to do is drive down the main street to experience the town's unique appreciation for creativity.
It is West Jefferson's eleven, at last count, murals which speak loudest of the town's commitment to the arts. They are all massive, boldly colored works that both inspire and inform.
We chose Stephen Shoemaker's powerful rendition of the famed Virgina Creeper train pulling into Devil Stairs Pass as the location for this cache. The painting is reminiscent of when the railroad was vital to the life of Ashe County, North Carolina. The train's "Virginia Creeper" nickname came about because its often slow service.
You are seeking a 35mm film canister that is uniquely camouflaged. It only holds a log so you will need to bring your own writing instrument. It is not necessary to enter the flower bed in order to access the cache. Please replace the cache exactly as you find it. For extra credit (only kidding), see if you can locate the other murals in this quaint town.
