Geocache Description:

If you are interested in sharing the wonders and the joys of geocaching with others, make sure you join us at the Whitefish Dunes State Park in beautiful Door County on February 5, 2005 from 12 - 3:00pm. The purpose is to bring awareness of geocaching to the park vistor and improve caches within Door County State Parks. Another goal is to bring avid geocachers together for information sharing.

We will be hiding a number of temporary caches in the park for beginners and experienced geocachers. Park visitors will be paired up with an expert cacher and will get a chance to find a cache or two. We are looking for volunteer cachers to help park visitors and new cachers. Remember to bring along your own GPS and any extra ones for participants to use. Drop me a note if you can be of assistance. A display on what Geocaching is all about will be made available for all participants. Bring something of interest that could be used in the display. Prizes will be awarded for finding caches. There are a number of permanent caches in a 10 mile radius for you to enjoy in the winter months. We will have the information available for you.

Whitefish Dunes State Park has 9 miles of cross-country ski trails and 4.5 miles of winter trails (open for hiking, snow shoeing, or skiing). Cachers should bring along skies or snow shoes for some of the more advanced caches. There are no snowmobile trails in Whitefish Dunes State Park. Some caches may not be available depending upon weather and trail conditions.

The Friends of Whitefish Dunes Organization, founded in 1989, will be sponsoring a portion of the event along with the Whitefish Dunes State Park. A 2005 motor vehicle State Park sticker is required for all participants. Park entry fee will be waived for cacher helpers and they must register before the event day.

Finally, we will have a Geocachers Meet and Eat Potluck for experienced cachers and their families from 3:00pm - 4:30pm in the State Park Shelter Building. Each cacher should bring an item to pass. Outdoor grills are available for those who desire the outdoor cookout experience. This will be an informal meeting and potluck. Please bring your own place settings and we are asked to Cache In and Trash Out.

Looking forward to our first geocaching adventure at Whitefish Dunes State Park on Febuary 5, 2005 from 12 - 3:00pm. Appreciate your note regarding your attendance and help.
