Geocache Description:

The Cache is hidden at the Essex Greenbelt property known as Stoney Cove and Presson Reservation in Gloucester. Visitors and residents of Gloucester are generally doing double nickels when passing these 53 acres and as such is rarely visited. Only fishermen fishing off the Stoney Cove pier in the Little River are aware of it.

As the cache name suggests these animals are visitors and denizens of this area and a careful observer may see them or their tracks. The trails are well defined, but are a bit overgrown at the edges a sign of the property's loneliness.

The area's history dates back to the late 1600's. The large pier was used to load lumber and granite onto ships bound for Boston. A second pier joined by a causeway over the marsh, now buried by route 128, was used as a staging point for a ferry across the Annisquam River so the colonists could attend important meetings at the Green. The Green was where Grant Circle now stands. Grant Circle is the first rotary you see when coming off the A Piatt Andrews bridge.

A once busy hub of trade and farming, the area is now a place perfect for a tranquil day of fishing or just relaxing with nature.

The cache is a 2 qt rubbermaid container with a white lid, filled with the usual goodies.

Parking is 3/10ths of a mile past the Concord St exit #13 on rte 128. Pull over to the breakdown lane and enter the small parking area. the parking coords are N42 37.534 W070 42.298

Thanks for taking the time to visit. pdaddy and Spiderman.

just a note on the cache coords, the gps was giving me approx accuracy of about 25 ft so they may not be exact. let me know if you can come up with a closer set.
