I've noticed several cachers have been curious about what this site was. The cave and the area immediately around it were the home of an A.Y. McDonald Mfg. (plumbing fixtures) wholesale and storage warehouse. The main plant was at 12th & Pine Streets. In the early 80's, the main plant was torn down to make way for for the necessary roads for the 151/61 link with the new Dubuque/Wisc bridge. A new, and much larger factory was built on the west side, and had plenty of storage space. This combined with the State of Iowa wanting to expand Hwy. 20 led to the removal of the old warehouse. The "cave" is one of several similar in the City where businesses & other property owners expanded natural openings in the bluffs to utilize every inch of space.
