Geocache Description:

UPDATE 02 January 2006: After talking with the camp, we have room for about 10 more people if anyone else would like to sign up. Registration and payment must be received by January 14 or when space is filled. Whichever comes first. After this, registration will be permenantly closed!! Please remember this is a WEEKEND event and you must preregister/pay and stay on camp property to attend. No exceptions.

The Great Northwoods Gathering will be held at YMCA Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya February 24-26, 2006. Camp "Unie" is approximately 75 miles north of Green Bay on Chute Pond in the Nicolet National Forest.

The Great Northwoods Gathering is a weekend event filled with winter fun and geocaching with family and friends. After all, U-Nah-Li-Ya means "place of friends" in Oneida dialect. Due to space limitations, the first forty-five (45) paid registrants will be guaranteed admittance.

About Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya:

Cabins: Each heated cabin has bunk beds with matresses, a table, chairs (not too comfy though), fireplace, full electricity and lighting, private deck/porch, firewood, outdoor grill for cooking and a terrific lake and forest view. Parking is located near each cabin with heated bathrooms centrally located offering flush toilets, private showers and changing areas, and electrical outlets.

Camp Facilities: Camp offers the following for your enjoyment: cross country boots, and skies with miles of trails (rated easy to expert), sledding hill (equipped with plastic sleds, fire pit and floodlights), ice skates, 2 skating rinks, hockey sticks, broom ball equipment, snow shoes, an ice shanty (bring your own poles and license), and the ever popular sauna. You are welcome to bring your own equipment as well. From experience, if you really want to go sledding, bring a snow tube ( I have recorded speeds of 35 MPH+ down the hill with one)!

Food: You are on your own! You can bring a small grill to put on the deck of the cabin (no grilling inside), a pizza oven or small microwave and/or coffee maker to use in the cabin. There are several restaurants nearby serving all kinds of food. The main dining hall does have coffeee and hot chocolate available during the day and early evening for your consumption. There will be a group dinner (pay your own) on Saturday evening at one of the nearby restaurants.

Geocaching Activities:

Caches: We will be hiding 15-20 temporary caches on the 140 acres of camp property. You will have from check-in Friday until Sunday 10:00 AM to find all the temporary caches. There are also another 15+ permenant caches within a 20 mile radius of camp if you still want to cache (we'll have this info available).

Group Dinner/Door Prizes:: On Saturday evening there will be a group dinner at one of the nearby restaurants. Afterwards, we will hand out door prizes and talk caching!

Of course, being a weekend event allows plenty of opportunity to meet new friends, learn form others and share geocaching stories.
