This is the 2nd in
our Adventure Out series. In this series we take you to our
favourite day trips & camping locations within 300km of
Perth.
Located 150km
south east of Perth is the Congelin Siding - the official camping
area of the Dryandra Settlement and National Park. This is an
excellent day trip - though we recommend you camp overnight to
enjoy the natural wonders of this great location.
Numerous walk
trails in the area can be enjoyed by foot or car. There is
also a unique 25km "Sounds of Dryandra Woodland Drive Trail" where
you can tune into 100FM and listen to information about the
area.
The highlight
for Bibra Boys is the wildlife. The Congelin campground is an
excellent location from which to witness the native fauna. On
our numerous trips we have seen possums (up close - they will walk
about your camp), woylies, bats, owls, echidnas, kangaroos, lizards
and much, much more. The Dryandra Woodland is most famous for
the Numbat. CALM have undertaken extensive baiting programs
to eliminate the foxes therefore protecting this threatened
species.
The campground
has good pit toilets, gas BBQs and lots of camping space. You
can choose from individual camping spots or the group camping
area. From your base camp you can explore a number points of
interest including the Dam, the Railway Bridge (featured below),
Water Tower & Fire Pit and Telegraph Line to name a
few.
The cache itself
is a located near the camp ground. It is a cylindrical
container. It contains a folder full of information about the
Dryandra area and it's fauna. We have provided Co-Ords to the
points of interest provided above. Swaps are also
available.
We hope you enjoy
your visit to Congelin.
