The observant geocacher will notice clues of a time long past; a
railroad bed filled with trees instead of echoes of lonely steam
whistles, ghostly pylons driven into the banks of the Pecatonca
River where steam engines once crossed, and remains of concrete
bridge supports pointing upward, some more than ten feet.
|
Near the geocache, a steam locomotive tipped over as it
approached a corner too fast. The engineer was suffering from a
severe tooth ache. In pain, rushing to an appointment to have the
tooth extracted, he was not paying attention. So goes the story
told by old timers. The locomotive survived. The wisdom tooth no
longer created a problem...until now. |
Wisdom teeth, at one time, must have served a purpose. Today,
they are just a pain. The Devils Wisdom Tooth will prove to be a
pain as well. An unprepared geocacher may be tempted to approach
the area without having made preparations before hand. Scouting the
area, planning, and thinking will aid the geocacher in making a
wise decision. When placing the geocache a family of raccoons, in a
nearby tree, watched as we went by. We were careful not to disturb
the mother goose's nest. Passers-by waved and smiled when they saw
us. We waved back knowing that the geocache would be safe. The
surrouning area is private land. There is no trail in the woods to
follow. A boat of some sort might be useful. Climbing gear might be
useful. No mountain climbing gear is required. The geocache is an
ammo box filled with new fishing lures and the traditional log
book.
