Geocache Description:

Sct Lukas kirke - 1897
  St Luke’s Church – 1897

Arkitekt: Valdemar Koch

Sct.

Orgelet: Starup 1971: 16 stemmer

Union Jack

Architect: Valdemar Koch

St Luke’s Church is the first church built to relieve the pressure on the parish of Frederiksberg, which in the late 1800s counted about 60,000 people.

The church was built after the new concept that a church was not only for the Sunday sermons and relegious ceremonies, but also a place with rooms to be used during the week by the parishioners. It is built in Roman style with reliefs of Th. Bærentzen.
In 1994 the porch was enlarged by architect Per Gents. The church room is decorated with “paradise flowers”, which are to be found in all Koch’s churches in Copenhagen: Kapernaum, Apostel, Sion, and Krist. The altarpiece ‘Christ who reveals himself to his disciples’ is painted by Frans Schwartz.

Round the entrance doors you see a repetition of Joakim Skovgaard’s annunciation scene from the church Helligåndskirken, as well as a relief by Th. Bærentzen ‘The Suffering Mankind’, and a crucifix made of bog oak by Johannes Kragh. On the walls over the windows angels flutter with citations from the St Luke, painted by Carl Budtz Møller in 1910

The organ: Starup 1971: 16 stops
