Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Mamre Cemetery is dedicated to the memory of the Norwegian pioneers who established a Lutheran Church here in 1886. The cache is not located at a grave so please do not disturb the gravestones or graves. If you have young children please have them be careful around the headstones. The very old ones are not always stable and fall over easily. I don't want anyone hurt.
Marme Cemetery has many old stones written in Norwegian. It is a very pretty and well kept cemetery. The Lohre (Oscar, Ole, Beret) family and the Svend Grinde family have several stones in Norwegian. Other older stones include: Andrew Eimum 1833-1891, Marie Nelson 1820-1893, Mother Bakke 1829-1898, Ole Dahl 1826-1904, Guru Dahl 1818-1906, John Foss 1821-1903, Marit Foss 1821-1906, Anders Mitlyng 1829-1913 Sivert Fladoes 1824-1904, Ingeborg Wold 1830-1901, Elias Knutson 1830-1901 (note in Norwegian) and many others.
Marking on the Lohre stones:
Herre, Min Gud Jeg
Raabte Til Dig
Og Du
Helbredede Mig
