Honey Bear Park is one of the original City Parks. It was dedicated
in 1976 as a "tot-lot" and named in accordance with Board policy at
the time which named parks "after animals".
During 1984/85 parts of the site were sold by the City for
residential lots. Neighborhood intervention stopped the
questionable actions and saved the remaining acreage from further
development. In 1996 the playground area was completely renovated
along with new park amenities and various tree plantings. In Fall
2005, the gazebo was constructed completing the park as you will
see it.
This cache is located in a residential area, the park about the
size of a couple of neighborhood lots. It is bordered by a creek
which creates a number of dead end streets. Honey Creek Dr should
provide the most direct route in.
As this is a neighborhood, the ULTIMATE STEALTH will be required
if the park is busy. Please search between sunrise and sunset
only - no after hour searches as the neighbors definitely do watch
for activity in this park. This Park experiences the most
vandalism of all our City parks which is very sad.
No restrooms, no bubbler or other water source as this is a
neighborhood park. Enjoy the playground equipment and the permanent
picnic tables.
The name of the cache should help narrow down your search.
Better yet, bring along the geo-kids to provide some cover. Bring
your own pen or pencil to sign the log! No room for
tradies.
AuntieNae is a Recreation Supervisor with the City of Greenfield
Dept of Parks & Recreation. This cache has been placed by
permission.
It is possible this cache is wheelchair accessible. The walk way
is paved up to the cache. The picnic table is permanently attached
which is the only obstacle between this being a 1 star to 1.5 star
terrain.
1/31/07 Winter update - cache hide is winter friendly
My inspiration for this cache hide was a series called "Got Gas"
hidden around the San Antonio, Texas area. I was in Texas in March
2006 while attending a conference with TamCo. It is a great example
of how you can hide a cache in plain site in a high muggle area. No
bushwhacking, no weedwacking, no poison ivy or thorns - great cache
for these hot summer days.
Special thanks to The Tapps for putting the parts of this cache
together for me.
