Pratt's Peak is the highest point in Northern Bayfield Co. WI. at an official elev. of 1426 ft. putting it about 800 ft. above Lake Superior.
This cache is an ammo box. Pratt's Peak is about 300 ft. verticle rise and about .43 mi. from the suggested parking spot. The rating is because of this steep climb.In winter the view from here is spectacular, in summer you are below a thick canope of high trees which allow for few opportunities for a view, although there are glimpses of Lake Superior through the canope.The cache is located on some of the finest of Bayfield Co. Forest Cropland.Further to the North there are other lower peaks that have views of Lake Superior even in the summer, if your up for further hicking.Suggested entry point, Settelment Dump Rd. (N46 48.117 W91 02.434)(not plowed in winter). Take the first left on Settlement Dump Rd. onto the County Forest Rd.(not marked). This will take you to the suggested parking spot just past the big boulder at (N46 49.034 W91 02.906). For the adventuresome the forest Rd. continues past here to the Lake of The Clouds, but there is one rough spot to get by (4X4 or bravery sugested to pass)I go by in my Subaru Forester an all wheel drive with caution.
This cache is located on Bayfield County Forest Cropland. I obtained permision from Steve Probst Administrative Assistant for the Bayfield County Forestry Department.
