Geocache Description:

Best as a hiking destination when snow is absent. During July and August, count on raspberries or blackberries in the sunny stretches of trail. Look for moose tracks in the mud. And listen for the amazing Hermit Thrush song.

Pack water and food, wear long pants and good boots. Be prepared for several hours in the woods and on open trails. Trails are old logging roads and do appear on local hiking maps and are cleared enough to be easy to follow. These trails are used for snowmobiling in the snowy seasons, but the cache will not be possible to find under snow.
Wear hunter orange - lots of it - during the hunting season, and put orange on your dog too!
Suggested starting points:
1. [Update: Irene washed out this trail near the Hancock end. Rocks cover that section of the trail.] For a good long hike (5-6 hours) take the Hancock Tunnel up and over to Wing Farm Rd in Rochester. Park at the end of Tunnel Brook Rd in Hancock, just off rte 100. (not a loop - arrange a car drop off.)
2. For a shorter hike (maybe 2 hours), park off Maple Hill Road, Rochester at these coordinates (43 52.384N, 072 51.471W) where the rough road begins. Vertical ascent from here is about 500 ft - no bushwhacking required.
Cache is a new green ammo box.
Initial contents:
- Green Jeep TB
- bag o marbles
- magnetic flashing flag pin
- peace button
Enjoy!
