INDIANA GHOST TOWN
QUEST
The Indiana Ghost Town
Quest series of geocaches will take you to towns of yester-year
that no longer exist or are near extinction. Inspired by the
Indiana Spirit Quest cemetery series, this series will take you to
remnant sites as well as vacant sites where towns once existed,
hopefully exposing a part of our historic past to the
visitor.
These towns were once
important centers of trade but due to various reasons now are gone.
These reasons can include changes in local industry, changes in
trade routes, or even changes in transportation. This can be as
simple as railroads replacing canals and interstates replacing
local highways.

INDIANA GHOST TOWN
QUEST #6:
"GOBLESVILLE"
Goblesville is in Clear Creek Twp.,
Huntington County. According to the Huntington County Library the
town of Goblesville was settled on Section 3, on June 13, 1855 by
Peter "Roy" Goble. Roy Goble built a log school house on the
property, which was also used as a church. Roy was married twice
and had between 10 and 17 children. Several of Roy's sons were
responsible for constructing the buildings of Goblesville. They ran
the stores, operated the mill, and started the church. The small
pioneering village had blacksmith shops, a general store where the
post office was located, a wagon and buggy shop, a hoop factory,
and the Huntington Brewery. Today Goblesville is just a speck on
the map, a mini village, and currently has no post office. It has a
few occupied houses, a brick church, an old brick school building
(now used for storage) and an empty store. It has been classified
as one of the Ghost Towns of Huntington County.
Asa, John and George were Roy’s sons.
John owned a sawmill and a store. Most of the railroad ties used in
building the road from Huntington to Bippus came from his mill. Asa
Goble’s name appears on the present 1902 brick UB church building.
George was aa carpenter and helped build the Church.
The brick school building, which is on
the northwest corner, was grade School District Number
Two.
The present abandoned building on the
south east corner was the General Store/ Post Office
The brick house across from the church is
also another of the earlier buildings..
