Pelican P** Island Traditional Cache
KingwoodGeo: Since checking on this cache requires a significant logistical inconvenience (taking the boat to Lake Houston and then bringing it back), I think it's reasonable to permanently archive the Cache. My apologies to those Watching this cache, but verifying that it is or is not in place is not going to happen within a reasonable timeframe.

The cache is a small tube strapped to a vertical mesquite bush branch about 5 feet above the sand of a small island in Lake Houston.
The island has a relatively long sand spit on the downstream end (east) where birds like to rest. We saw two huge white pelicans, a rarity in Texas during the summer, as they usually fly north to breed and come back to Texas for the winter. The bird book says they're probably too old to breed, so they don't bother to make the trip and stay south year-round. Kind of like humans and Florida.
It had been a while since a good rain had washed down the sand on that spit, and it smelled pretty rank from the bird droppings all around. For that reason, we've named this cache Pelican P** Island.
For canoers, there is a good parking place and put-in at 30 2.541 N 95 9.246 W on Scenic Shore Drive.
We put this one out there to make it a little more worthwhile for cachers to do the Lake Houston PWC series. These aren't simple Park 'n' Grabs. Hopefully, one more cache is enough to motivate a few folks to haul the boat out to Lake Houston.
