Geocache Description:

This cashe is part of the First Annual International EarthCaching Day in conjunction with Earth Science Week. Ever wonder what geologists do with all those rocks? Here's a chance to find out! Free educational material.

Join us for an EarthCaching Event on the first day of Earth Science Week at the WGNHS Research Collections and Education Center. Meet at 1:00 p.m.

This facility houses the research collections of rock samples, cores, and water-well cuttings that, together, comprise the physical records upon which the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey, the state geological survey and an administrative unit of the University of Wisconsin-Extension, bases its ongoing research into the geologic and hydrogeologic resources of Wisconsin.

The visitor will have an opportunity to tour this unique "warehouse" of physical information and learn how such information can inform our understanding of the world around us and how we, then, can continue to learn "new knowledge" from "old rocks." Also, free educational material prepared by the WGNHS will be available.
