Geocache Description:

Devils Tower is a monolith (more technically, an igneous intrusion) or volcanic neck located in eastern Wyoming. It is the first United States National Monument, established on September 24, 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt. Geologists agree that Devils Tower was formed by the intrusion of igneous material. What they cannot agree upon is how, exactly, that process took place. One scientific hypothesis states that Devils Tower is the neck of a small volcano. Another theory says that it is part of a laccolith; a third theory is that Devils Tower is a plutonic plug - an igneous intrusion that failed to reach the surface.
Make a day of it, explore the area and enjoy the scenery. If you are feeling really brave, maybe sign up to climb the “Tower”. Please refer to the Devils Tower website for more information if you are serious about climbing the tower.

In order to get credit for this earthcache, you will need to log the following information.A picture of you and/or your group showing your GPS next to the largest column you can find on or near the tower and count how many sides the column has. Please do NOT log your find until you have your picture ready to post. It has been to difficult to keep track of who has not posted a picture. We will delete your find if you do not have a picture posted, thanks for your understanding.
