Came armed with a metal detector, but was able to find it using the witness post. Well, if you call a wooden stake with a ribbon on it a witness post. Dug around in the weeds with my garden trowel and uncovered the marker.

I measured from the middle of where I think the gate once was. And, checked against where it appears the fence once was. That location is at the junction between well mowed grass and deep weeds. If it had been in the mowed area and visible from the surface it would have been obvious. I poked around in the deep weeds and struck nothing solid. The witness post is gone so, if this one's still there, it's is going to be difficult to find.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
