REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 1 GOOD. IT IS A STANDARD REFERENCE DISK IMBEDDED IN A SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT AND STAMPED OPEN NO 1 1944. PROJECTS ONE INCH.

REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 2 DISTURBED. TILTED AND ROTATED FROM THE ORIGINAL ORIENTATION. IT IS A STANDARD REFERENCE DISK IMBEDDED IN A SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT AND STAMPED OPEN NO 2 1944. PROJECTS 3 INCHES.

AZIMUTH MARK DISTURBED, TILTED. IT IS A STANDARD AZIMUTH MARK DISK IMBEDDED IN A SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT AND STAMPED OPEN 1944. IT IS WEST OF THE INTERSECTION OF OF A NW-SE DIRT ROAD AND AN E-W DIRT ROAD. WITNESS POST NOT FOUND. OTHERWISE AS DESCRIBED IN 1944 DESCRIPTION. PROJECTS 2 INCHES. TO REACH FROM THE EAST END OF THE DRIVEWAY TO THE TOWER (ABOUT 65 METERS ENE OF THE STATION) GO SOUTH AND SE ON A DIRT ROAD ABOUT 0.2 MILES TO A CROSS ROAD AND THE MARK ON THE RIGHT. ABOUT 348 METERS SSE OF THE STATION. HANDHELD HH2 GPS POSITION 31 05' 40.6'' (N) 086 33' 12.9'' (W) (31 05.677' - 086 33.214')

BamBam noticed this on the way back to the truck after finding "Look Out". As previously described, the disk is in good condition. We didn't have a camera to photograph it, but the coords for it are N 31 05.839 W 086 33.329

Appears to be in good condition. A little chunk of the cement has broken off, but the disc is good to go.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1944 (FN) STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 15.5 MILES SSW OF ANDALUSIA, ON PROPERTY OF THE U.S. FORESTRY SERVICE. IT IS ON THE GROUNDS OF THE OPEN POND LOOKOUT TOWER. IT IS 51 FEET SSE OF THE CENTER OF THE TOWER AND 4.5 FEET NNW OF A WOODEN WITNESS POST. IT IS STAMPED OPEN 1944. SURFACE, UNDERGROUND, REFERENCE, AND AZIMUTH MARKS ARE BRONZE DISKS SET IN CONCRETE. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS 78.51 FEET NE OF THE STATION, 76.6 FEET E OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER, AND 62 FEET S OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE DRIVEWAY. IT IS STAMPED OPEN NO 1 1944. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS 74.62 FEET SW OF THE STATION, 83 FEET S OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER, AND 11.3 FEET NNW OF A POLE. IT IS STAMPED OPEN NO 2 1944. AZIMUTH MARK IS SE OF THE STATION, IN THE NE ANGLE OF A CROSS ROAD. IT IS 53 FEET WSW OF THE CENTER LINE OF A NW-SE DIRT ROAD, AND 19 FEET N OF AN E-W ROAD. A WOODEN WITNESS POST WAS PLACED 4 FEET ESE OF THE MARK. IT IS STAMPED OPEN 1944. LOOKOUT TOWER OPEN POND (U.S.F.S.) WAS CONNECTED TO THE STATION. DISTANCE, 15.537 METERS (50.97 FEET). TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 29 AND STATE HIGHWAY 88 (ABOUT 12 MILES SW OF ANDALUSIA) GO S ON STATE HIGHWAY 88 FOR 5.4 MILES TO A T-ROAD LEFT AT A SIGN OPEN POND. TURN LEFT ON A GRADED DIRT ROAD AND GO 0.2 MILE TO A FORK, TAKE THE RIGHT FORK FOR 0.4 MILE, THEN TURN RIGHT ON A DRIVEWAY FOR 0.1 MILE TO THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND STATION. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE DRIVEWAY IN FRONT OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER, GO E FOR 0.1 MILE, TURN RIGHT AND GO 0.2 MILE TO A CROSS ROAD AND THE MARK ON THE RIGHT. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK - 22 METERS.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in December 1992.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
