We were looking for the Ascension Garden cache and it said to note the benchmark number and log it seperately. We didn't know what it was talking about, but we listened anyway. When we got home I started logging in caches and I decided to look for this thing. Hey, it may be something new for us to find!

This was in a somewhat unlikely place considering where these have been typically located on the few we've found.

Greetings Geocachers/Benchmarkers,

I found this just a little help from Bellclan. Now that I’ve studied it a bit, the description is indeed adequate for recovery. The coordinates seemed a bit off, but will certainly get you in the ballpark. Check out the small and almost hidden building next to the flower shop across from the Burger Kind in Lexington Park. Watch out for the vegetation. It’s there, exactly as described, a nice vertical mount.

Happy Benchmarking,
Ghosthunter

This was our first benchmark and proved harder that we originally thought. The directions were right on. (Do, Ry, Ri, Bi)

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
