Both Penn and Reference Mark No. 2 were found in good condition. They are in Section EE Row 30 near the top of the seating area at Franklin Field, the stadium of the University of Pennsylvania. Reference Mark No. 1 was not observed but is believed to be under a wooden announcing booth located approximately 7 feet northeast of the station in the same row. The datasheet says RM No. 1 was 1 foot outside of the booth but it appears the booth has been enlarged over the years so that it covers RM No. 1. The azimuth mark, the finial on the spire at the University’s Irvine Auditorium, was also observed.

I think that the way the seating is numbered may have changed since it was first laid out. Found the benchmark as follows.

“DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1933 (GLA) STATION IS AT THE E END OF THE STADIUM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA, WHICH IS KNOWN AS FRANKLIN FIELD.”

Okay. Look in section EE. It is closer to the EE – ED tunnel.

“IT IS ON THE SECOND ROW OF SEATS FROM THE TOP OF THE TOP TIER OF SEATS. STATION IS A STANDARD DISK CEMENTED IN DRILL HOLE FLUSH WITH THE CONCRETE IN THE SECOND ROW, WHICH IS ENTRANCE D STEP NO. 31 AND STATION IS OPPOSITE SEAT NO. 20. STATION IS 10 FEET S OF A REPORTERS BOOTH WHICH IS AT THE TOPMOST PART OF THE STADIUM AT THE E END.”

Found that as described. Though I would have said it was row 30.

“REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS A STANDARD DISK CEMENTED IN DRILL HOLE IN THE CENTER OF THE SECOND ROW OF SEATS (SAME ROW ON WHICH STATION IS LOCATED), WHICH IS STEP NO. 31 AND MARK IS OPPOSITE SEAT NO. 32. IT IS ONE FOOT S OF THE REPORTERS BOOTH.

I would have said seat 26.

REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS A STANDARD DISK CEMENTED IN DRILL HOLE IN THE CENTER OF THE SECOND ROW OF STEPS (SAME ROW ON WHICH STATION IS LOCATED), WHICH IS STEP NO. 31 AND MARK IS OPPOSITE SEAT NO. 6. MARK IS 4 FEET N OF THE STEPS LEADING TO THE TOP OF THE STADIUM FROM THE ENTRANCE MARKED D.

Couldn’t find that one. There was no entrance marked D.

“AZIMUTH MARK IS THE FINIAL ON THE SLIM SPIRE ON BUILDING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA KNOWN AS IRVINE AUDITORIUM LOCATED ON THE CORNER OF THIRTY-FOURTH AND SPRUCE STREETS, PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.”

The spire on the Irvine Auditorium is still there.
