Our first benchmark! We were looking for the tri-state cache and wandered over to find this benchmark. How cool to be able to stand in three states at once. Not sure if we will look for benchmarks, but it is nice to pick one up that is this easy and cool.

Interesting spot. I've been by here on I-84 several times in past years but, even though I like visiting tri-state points, I never stopped because I had always thought the tri-state point was in the river. Thanks to a note for the nearby geocache, I learned that it wasn't and so stopped by to see the benchmark/tri-state point today.

We found this one with relative ease. Don't the people who keep trying to 'pry' the disk off realize HOW DEEP THE MARKER ACTUALLY GOES? Short of a acetylene torch, or a hack saw, it shall remain in place...not to mention it is AGAINST FEDERAL law to remove, try to remove, deface or otherwise damage these markers? They should put some monitors up to record these locations to see just who is perptrating the damage! Semper Fidelis.

Oh, now this was sweet. Very easy benchmark; I spied it from about 50' away uphill. There were some fishermen in the immediate area, so I came down to just look over the benchmark, look over the confluence of the rivers, and departed. Despite the roadnoise overhead, and the fisherdudes 5' away, it was a peaceful area. Cool.

Team GeeOh!

Hey CGS, found it! Etrex read 11.2 ft. Coordinates were pretty good. However, I was in the shadow of the Interstate overpass. Recovered the reference mark stamped with designation LAUREL NO. 2. It is set on top of a granite block anchored into a rock outcropping, at the point where the two rivers converge. There is much wear to the disk, but markings are still visible.

P.S. I can touch all three states with one hand, pretty coool!

A winding drive through a peaceful cemetery only to be greeted by the roar of traffic on the Interstate above. Oh well.

This boundary marker was a surprise to me - I would have thought the states would have been divided at the rivers' midpoints, but I guess this one is like the Potomac (where the river belongs entirely to Maryland and the District; Virginia ends at the shoreline).

Wish I had known there was a catch nearby....

I could not believe this was the tri-state tower...I always thought it was in High Point Park, NJ...anyway, really enjoyed standing in three states at once...to bad this amazing spot is overshadowed by I-84...I guess that is the price we pay for progress...

Right where it should be. Visited it after a VERY nearby cache. There was a dad and two kids fishing by it, but my daughter navigated around them and stood right on top of it and smiled.

Found while cache hunting here in fine condition. Used to come here as a younger man to swim in the Delaware. The kids loved State hopping and can't wait to tell their school buddies next week.

After a good day of hiding caches, looking for caches, and looking for benchmarks. We came up with the idea of a cache at this location. To kill 2 birds with one stone. so this one is an easy one.

They don't get much more obvious than this one. Still, it was a really neat marker to find. As the description states, it's on the tip of a peninsula between the two rivers, just beyond a cemetery and beneath the interstate bridges -- an unusual location with lots of 'atmosphere'. Rich's description of the marker is accurate. Unfortunately, the Laurel benchmark has been paved over.

It wasn't my intention to search for benchmarks today, but this one happened to be part of a Geocache hunt. Nor was I sure if it would be listed in the data sheets so I figured I'd take the requisite photos and other information and check it out when I got home. Not surprising that PatW has already got it logged. Good job! Since I wasn't aware of the LAUREL station mark at the time, I'll have to search for it during another visit. At the station my Garmin GPSmap76 receiver indicated approximately 13 feet from the posted coordinates. The disc is quite visible and is in good condition. The designations, if any, cannot be read. ~Rich in NEPA~

Recovered in good condition as described. This BM is immediately under the I-84 bridge where it crosses the Delaware River. It is actually an RM to the Laurel BM, LY2611. The Tri-State stone monument appears in the lower center of the photo of the Deleware River . . . . patrick & shirley
