Doing a little geocaching and dad and I couldn't resist the allure of lifting the manhole cover. Mark in good shape; the stone has really had a hard life.

I saw this one on the 150th anniversary of the 6th Principal Meridian. Not being either native born or a surveyor, I never knew this mark was so special. But hearing most of the surveyors today refer to it as "hallowed ground", I realize it's more special than I can comprehend.

Found this historic Intial Point for 5 states in excellent condition and just as described in 1987 during the corners' perpetuation celebration.

The corner sits in a lonely backroad location and is well protected by the concrete slab and very tight and heavy manhole lid.

This is my seventh initial point in the last 14 months and is by far the best job of perpetuation by the surveying societies. It will easily last for another 150 years.
