I was at the visitor center finding a cache and one of the people there was explaining the street naming system. I thought to myself "Sporkboy...(I often refer to myself in the third person when thinking to myself) that's the kind of thing that would probably be a benchmark so you'd better check it out." I did go over and check it out and low and behold it was a great benchmark. Special thanks to all those involved in the placing of this particular benchmark.

Saw it. Fence has been removed and wall constructed adjacent to monument. Note latest NGS data sheet entry says stone was removed and replaced during construction in 2001. That might have degraded accuracy of position.

Found the Initial Point for Utah on a nice rainy morning. Tough GPS signal with the wall and tall buildings around. This is the nicest Initial Point that I have seen yet.

It was my first time to visit the Temple and it is amazing. As we walked around in the snow I knew to look for the marker. The snow was so heavy I had to brush it clear to see the inscription. I did not remember to record the find until months later and I can't find my photo of it.

Easy to find this one, but all too many people walk past this and never notice. And few even realize that its also the center of the grid system. I never noticed it until after the plaza was built. Does anyone have a photo of the fence around it before it was removed?

16 August 2002, 20:45Found this one on accident. On a trip to Denver and decided to see Temple Square on the way. Found the Base & Meridian Monument on the way out.
