Found in good condition. Over the Columbus weekend I headed up to northern New Hampshire for some hiking, benchmarking and a bit of sight seeing. All the recovered marks (and all but one of the Not Founds) were boundary markers of one sort or another. Some were state boundary markers, some were US-Canada boundary markers and some were IBC triangulation stations (used when the US-Canada border was surveyed in 1915-1916). Here's a trip report: (visit link) And here's a set of photo albums: (visit link) This mark is a triangulation station disk set on a rock a few inches below ground which was surrounded by boulders on the boundary line at the highest point of the unnamed 3277' peak between Monument 477 and 478. I hiked along the boundary vista from Salmon Mountain to the south to get here. At times the going was rough due to the slash from a recent clearing of the vista which was left in place. Like all the triangulation disks set in the 1915-16 survey, it is a 2 inch brass disk emmbosed "U.S.& C.B.SURVEY" and is otherwise unstamped. The disk was in good condition. The station had been marked by surveyors tape, which was unusual. Generally the IBC will mark the line markers when they do a clearing (which had just been done) but will ignore triangulation stations - which are more often than not off the boundary line. I suspect they found this and mistook it for line marker 477-33, which was supposed to be just 24 feet away. I did not find that marker and I suspect it is buried nearby. Logged with the NGS as "Recovered, good condition" on 10/12/2006
