I returned to this area on October 6th, actually in pursuit of a station further along the boundary (QH0524 "SPECT IBC"}, which I did not find, but I found this one again. I took a few more pictures and I also calculated the distance and direction from the nearest boundary marker, disk No. 484.31 which is just past the crest of the rocky ledge leading to this summit. It was marked with surveyors tape and slightly below ground level when I was there, so hopefully you will see it. Using the INVERSE program I got the values: Azimuth 333 58 50.8143 From North Distance 27.2101 m (89.27 feet) So if you head into the woods in a direction of about 334 degrees true, or about 351 degrees magnetic, for about 30 paces, you should see the little rocky knoll and the mark is right there on the edge of the rock. I just got back from a 5 day hiking trip to the Boundary Range - the ridge line that forms the border between the US and Canada along New Hampshire and western Maine. The area is very remote and the only passage in most parts of the area is over dirt logging roads. I drove up Wednesday and crossed over to Woburn Quebec which is a few miles past the Coburn Gore Maine border crossing, where US Route 27 crosses into Canada. I hiked Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday from the Canadian side and then Friday night crossed into Pittsburg New Hampshire where US Route 3 terminates. Saturday morning I was met by a friend and spent Saturday and Sunday morning hiking from the US side. This station is a triangulation station at the high point of Prospect Hill, about 1 mile along the boundary west of the Pittsburg NH Customs station where US Route 3 croses the border. There is a parking lot on the east side of the road and I checked with the customs agent and he said it is not necessary to check with them when doing this boundary walk. The first half is easy going since the trail to 4th Connecticut Lake follows this route. (I reccomend you check this out, it's a lovely spot.) The second half is a bit rougher but not bad. The last little bit involves a rock scramble. The station is about 40 - 50 feet north of the boundary swath on the Canadian side. It is the only bunp that is rocky. The mark is not covered and is readily seen when it is approached. I did not search for the reference marks. Logged as "recovered in good condition" with the NGS on 8/29/2006.
