The mark was not Found. Over the Columbus weekend I headed up to northern New Hampshire for some hiking, benchmarking and a bit of sight seeing. All the recovered marks (and all but one of the Not Founds) were boundary markers of one sort or another. Some were state boundary markers, some were US-Canada boundary markers and some were IBC triangulation stations (used when the US-Canada border was surveyed in 1915-1916). Here's a trip report: (visit link) And here's a set of photo albums: (visit link) This mark was a USGS triangulation disk set under the center of the fire lookout tower in 1925. The tower was built in 1916 but was replaced by another tower about 250 feet east in 1926. The present tower was built in 1937 at the easterly location. The description implies that the 1926 tower was already under construction when the mark was set. I could find no remnants of the old tower. There is a slight rise about 250 feet from the present tower and my GPS indicated that this was the location of the station, but no concrete footings, abandoned steel beams, steps, etc. were found. The area was heavily vegetated and there is no hint that a tower had ever stood on that spot. Logged with the NGS as "Not recovered, not found" on 10/12/2006
