I just got back from a 5 day hiking trip to the Boundary Range - the ridge line that forms the border between the US and Canada along New Hampshire and western Maine. The area is very remote and the only passage in most parts of the area is over dirt logging roads. I drove up Wednesday and crossed over to Woburn Quebec which is a few miles past the Coburn Gore Maine border crossing, where US Route 27 crosses into Canada. I hiked Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday from the Canadian side and then Friday night crossed into Pittsburg New Hampshire where US Route 3 terminates. Saturday morning I was met by a friend and spent Saturday and Sunday morning hiking from the US side. This station is a drive up which I recovered on the drive back from northern NH to the Boston area. It is on the Vermont/New Hampshire line just east of Halls Stream (which is the Quebec/New Hampshire border). It's on that little piece of Vermont which lies south of the (old version of the) 45th parallel, east of Halls Stream and west of the Connecticut River. Take the bridge over the Connecticut River from Route 3 to Beecher Falls Vermont. Go right on the first road and then left on Halls Stream Road which is just after the bridge over Halls Stream. The Vermont / New Hampshire line is in about 1/4 mile north. The station is in front of a large maple tree on the left (west) side of the road. It is an IBC triangulation tablet set on the top of the remnant of an old cast iron boundary monument, now cut off near the base. This is not actually a boundary monument, since the boundary line is the center of the stream about 100 yards to the west. This monument was erected as a reference monument and is aligned with the boundary line west of Halls Stream which follows the (old version of the) 45th parallel. Note on the top and right of the frame the top of the old cast iron post which was cut off near the base. I assume they filled the "stump" of the old post with concrete and mounted the disk, although I didn't see what was down under the disk. It was starting to rain so I didn't spend very long here.
