I have tried this out alongside my Garmin on about 9 caches now - only once has it failed - pointing in the opposite direction to the cache! It certainly leads to paperless caching - using the Geocaching App you can download the cache notes into the phone, and make your own notes as you go along! Brilliant. Not good in bright sunlight though - you can barely see the screen.
