I’m an old school “Silva Ranger” map and compass guy.
I went GPS after I bought National Geographic’s TOPO! Outdoor Recreation Mapping Software to update and consolidate a substantial compilation of field data I’d annotated on 24:000 USGS quads over the years while working summers for the USFS. I didn’t need mapping capabilities as TOPO! field maps were a click/print away, and our newly- purchased nu-vi 1350 road warrior would easily get me within striking distance of any desired target.
I selected the 72H because of its inherent high sensitivity accuracy and ruggedness. Snuggle this baby in a Special Ops Black Foarm case, and begin to experience some real confidence and pride in your equipment as it consistently puts you right on the money. Speaking of moolah, my “cache cash” investment, counting the 1350 and the 72H, hovers close to $250.00. If you want features like the Sun and Moon page, the Hunt and Fish page, and the Highway page, you’re looking at an outstanding value.
