Spruce Pine, NC: Located adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 331, the historic Skyline Inn was built by John M Greer in the side of the mountain at the entrance to a cavern, where a moonshine still was located. Construction began in 1942 and was completed in 1948 financed by the moonshine money. Mr. Greer was a master carpenter and stonemason.
