North Dakota (ND) was admitted to the Union as the 39th state on November 2, 1889. Nicknamed the "The Peace Garden State," North Dakota is the 19th largest state by geographic size (at 70,762 sq mi/183,272 sq km) and 38th largest by population. The capital city of North Dakota is Bismarck, the largest city is Fargo, and the highest point is White Butte at 3,506 ft/1,069 m.
