Northwest Territories (NT) became the 5th Canadian province on July 15, 1870. Northwest Territories is the 3rd largest province by geographic size (at 519,734 sq mi/1,346,106 sq km) and 11th largest by population. The capital city of Northwest Territories is Yellowknife, the largest city is Yellowknife, and the highest point is Mount Nirvana at 9,098 ft/2,773 m. The official languages include Chipewyan, Cree, English, French, Gwich’in, Inuinnaqtun, Inuktitut, Inuvialuktun, North Slavey, South Slavey, and Tłįchǫ.
