The cache is in a bush location and all locations can be accessed by following well defined walking trails. Some of the trails are moderately steep.
This cache hunt will take you to several interesting historical sites and should take 1 - 2 hours to complete. Take a copy of this page and a pen.

Although it is not essential, you may find your visit more interesting if you are equipped with a good torch.

START 37 44.993 S 145 13.005 E
---------------------------------

Here you will find a monument. Take note of the year it was erected and the year it was restored and subtract as follows to obtain the next location.

aaa = Year erected - 1121
bbb = Year restored - 1810

LOCATION 2 37 44.aaa S 145 13.bbb E
---------------------------------------

You should be standing in front of a sign. Take note of the following:

c = The number of miners in the lower horizontal shaft.
d = Half the number of tents
e = The number of seated children
f = The height of the stope plus 1

LOCATION 3 37 44.ccd S 145 13.efd E
-----------------------------------------

Another sign. Take note of the following:

ggg = Date at bottom of sign minus 1182

At the top of the sign there are some drawings. From these note the following:
h = Number of picks
j = Number of new chums
k = Number of trees

LOCATION 4 37 44.ggg S 145 13.hjk E
-----------------------------------------

Congratulations - you've found another sign.

Count the words on the following lines:

You may find ....... = m
you are standing ........ = n

Subtract 1854 from the year on this sign to get q (3 digits)

CACHE 37 44.m0n S 145 13.qqq E
------------------------------------

The pot at the end of the rainbow is in a natural hollow and is partially covered by leaves and branches.

Lovely day to do this cache and the Warrandyte area has always interested me with its history. No one around so I have the area to myself. My kids had a weekend here when they were in primary school and learnt all about the gold in the area. I was never confident to go into the tracks just in case I get lost. I am confident now that I can get back now with my gps. Thanks for all the history and info. Thanks for bringing me here. Nice easy find.

As a beginner in this enjoyable game of geocaching I have found a number of treasures but this the first I have logged as the last recorded visit was way back in December 2008.A great stroll in a very interesting area of Warrandyte.

CrackerGirl looked out the window today and saw that it was a good day for caching. A quick look on the map for some longer walks yielded this one. Pulled up to GZ after the recent rains and was greeted by a Yarra river that was up and fast flowing. This being the case at the first waypoint I used the zoom setting to read the plaque. Then it was off to the second waypoint which was easier said than done. After finding a fallen tree to cross the river she was off to waypoint 2. The rest of the information was collected without too much hassle and the cache was in the first place that she looked. She loved learning about the mining history of the area and took lots of photos.

Thanks Greg and Bev for a great walk and a glimpse into the gold mining past.

Been a most interesting day in amongst all the birthday wishes...business partner annouces resignation plans. So to celebrate this momentus occassion...we went for a little night cache hunt. The steep gradients at night were a little bit of a challenge but was a fun exercise in the covers of a clear night filled with stars!! Found the cache without to much trouble...Thanks For The Cache Greg and Bev

Big day... resigned from my day job... pulled the pin on 'Corporate IT'... thought a little cache action was needed to celebrate... not to mention business partner was having his birthday... so we headed out into the Warrandyte bush for a bit of multi-cache night time action... chose this cache because of the 4 part challenge factor... turned out to be quite night friendly... stars flickering above... we marched from location to location discussing business plans along the way... until we reached GZ... didn't take too long to find the cache... only problem was by the time we were back in civilisation the pub's kitchen was closed... TFTC Greg and Bev...
