Geocache Description:

Thanks to Paul Tucker for his assistance and insight and to Cynthia Stratton Thompson for giving permission to place this cache.
This cache has been rated using the Geocache Rating System.

Please do not bring anything to trade for this cache. There is an item available for each finder to take from the cache, but please DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING EXTRA IN THE CACHE. The item is a small remembrance of your find. Previously, there were also cd's inside the cache which provided further historical information on the place you are visiting. This information is now available online. If you wish to know more, please contact me and I'll be glad to send you a link.

Also, when logging this cache, please try not to reveal too much of the "secret" so those who have not yet found it can experience it first-hand.

A small step back in history:

I was first introduced to this place about a year and a half ago. My good friend Ghosthunter called me up with a project. A man he knew was in the process of trying to get a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One piece of information he needed was the approximate latitude and longitude of the property corners (survey accuracy was NOT required). Of course I was anxious to assist!

When we arrived, we met the cache's namesake, Mr. Tucker. After a brief introduction, he took us inside to show us his treasure.

A slightly larger step back in history:

About 9 years ago (as of 2003), Mr. Tucker was visiting the area and needed a diversion for he and his son. This place came to mind, and so, in they went. As he tells it, he made it about two steps inside the door and was overcome with amazement. As a woodworker and mathematician, he became instantly enthralled with what he saw. He has devoted much time since then educating both himself and other as to the origins and significance of this special place. As the leading authority, he says that this special place is the largest collection like it he has seen together in one place.

The cache is only available at the following times:

Monday-Thursday 10:00am - 7:00pm
Friday 10:00am - 4:00pm
Saturday 9:00am - 4:00pm

I will provide the first of three numbers that you will need to find this cache, you will need to find two more to arrive at an answer which should lead you to the cache. That first piece is the number 012.00. As you find the other numbers, you will need to make each a 5-digit number, with a decimal two places from the right. For example, if you find the number 123, it will become 001.23.

Before you enter the building, you should find the first number you need prominently displayed. It is not the address, but should give you an idea how old the building is.

After you find the first number, proceed inside. Please take plenty of time to explore and see all the special things there are to see. When you are ready to continue, you will need to find a map of the town, which is prominently displayed, and should not be hard to find. This is not a current map, but rather an old one. Feel free to ask someone if you have trouble locating it. This last number you seek is the "circa date" of the map, though the work "circa" is not actually printed on it.

Now that you have the three numbers, you need to find their average. The answer should lead you to what you seek. Don't forget to add the appropriate number of zeros so the number is 5 digits long, and insert the decimal point at the appropriate place. Good luck!
