Geocache Description:

THIS CACHE IS ON PRIVATE LAND. Please respect the land owner’s wishes and enter his property ONLY from the river. As suggested by the title, there are only two ways to get to this cache. You can row, or wade, the Navidad River to within 100 (or so) feet of the cache. On rare occasions you may be able to walk the riverbed when it is dry.

You will have to research the area as to the best location to start your adventure. Several bridges cross the Navidad. That would be a good place to start. Please comment (in your online logs) on the conditions that you encountered on the way to the cache. Feel free to give coords to your entry point and any other assistance you wish to give. Trash talking is encouraged.

ENTRY TO THE CACHE SITE: Enter the property from the river when your directional arrow points in (East) at 90 degrees. There is a very large tree, growing at an angle, which has a low branch that would be an ideal place to tie a boat off. Scramble up the bank and crawl under the barbed wire fence. There is a large gap (2 ½ feet), at the bottom of the fence, that should allow easy entry. EXPECT to get wet and dirty. The cache is within 150 feet of the river. DO NOT venture further onto the property. Most importantly, DO NOT CROSS PRIVATE PROPERTY TO GET TO THIS CACHE!!! The river is the ONLY legal way to get there.

POSSIBLE DANGERS: The river itself could pose a danger so be sure that conditions are safe before heading out. BE SURE TO CHECK FOR FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS. Other dangers include, but are not limited to; Hunters (in hunting season wear bright colors), Snakes (water moccasins & copperheads), Feral Hogs, Cattle, Panthers/Pumas (very rare), Fire Ants, and Spiders. If you hear banjo music, you might consider leaving before someone tells you to squeal like a pig.

ADDITIONAL INFO: The Navidad River rises 2 miles northeast of Schulenburg in southeast Fayette County and flows approximately 90 miles through Lavaca, Colorado, and Jackson Counties joining the Lavaca River near Vanderbilt. The Navidad River is very much like its counterpart, the Lavaca River, in that its watershed is very limited, and it depends entirely upon runoff for its flow. Therefore, the Navidad is suitable for recreational use only during periods of sufficient rainfall. The lower section in the vicinity of Edna usually contains a substantial flow and recreational use is possible. The river flows through the coastal plains, and no major hazards are found. FURTHER information can be obtained at the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority.

This cache was placed during “Buck Night” festivities with my friends, The Buck Night bunch. The title of this cache was suggested by my brother, Gasman887. Future Snoogans caches in this area will be called; Chateau Bubba (my favorite local, homemade wine), Buck Night (The night before the first day of deer season.), and Hog Night (6 months after Buck night. Time to go hog huntin’.)
