The Cache is located in the 13th district in the southwest of
Vienna. It´s in the popular recreation-area "Lainzer Tiergarten" a
former hunting ground of the emperor.
This cache is the second one of two caches in this
area and the longer/harder one. (See also "Lainzer Tiergarten
I".)
Details about the area can be found at:
http://www.wien.gv.at/umwelt/wald/erholung/lainzertiergarten/
(in german).
You can reach the cache area by public transport. Take the U4 till
"Hütteldorf". Walk 10 minutes to "Nikolai Tor". Those coming by
car, can park close to the entrance.
The trail is most of it`s length a gravel walk. Strollers can be
used. Only for the very last meters before the cache you have to
leave the way. No special equipment is needed, a map could be
useful. Animals and bikes are not allowed. Length: 10 km (minimum),
Difference in Height: 400 m.
Opening hours: From mid-february till mid of november everyday at
least 9 to 5 (depending on the season. See notice at the door!). In
winter the park is closed except a short period from 24th of
december till 6th of january (only "Nikolai-Tor" and "Lainzer Tor"
are open during this period!). Don´t get locked in!
NB: The above difficulty and terrain rating was done with the
program from geocaching.com. To be international comparable I´m
using this result. (See the discussion in the forum also.) My
personal opinion is a rating of 2.5 stars for difficulty and 2
stars for terrain.
Stage 1: Prelude
N1 = 48° x1´ where x1 = 11.896
E1 = 016° y1´ where y1 = 15.160
There are lots of wild boars in this area. At the given coordinates
a farrow introduces itself. Convert the 4-letter name into numbers
(A=1, B=2,...Z=26). Add these numbers and call the result A.
Stage 2: An old Building
N2 = 48° x2´ where x2 = x1 - (A - 28) / 1000
E2 = 016° y2´ where y2 = y1 - (A - 31) / 1000
At this stage you will see an old building. In what year was this
building documented on paper for the very first time ("erste
urkundliche Erwähnung")? The result is B.
Stage 3: The visit of the emperor
N3 = 48° x3´ where x3 = x2 - (B - 338) / 1000
E3 = 016° y3´ where y3 = y2 - (B - 897) / 1000
Find a memorial stone which describes the last visit of a foreign
emperor and empress. Take the date in the format dd/mm/yyyy.
Stage 4: The sign
N4 = 48° x4´ where x4 = x3 - (dd * mm + 56) / 1000
E4 = 016° y4´ where y4 = y3 - (yyyy / 2 - 177) / 1000
At the given coordinates you will see a sign. How far is it to
"Lainzer Tor". The result in meters is C. (Don´t forget the closing
hours...). ;-)
Stage 5: Built of stone
N5 = 48° x5´ where x5 = x4 - (C / 10 + 228) / 1000
E5 = 016° y5´ where y5 = y4 - (C / 5 - 5) / 1000
Look for an object which is built of stone. Count the number of
stairs inside that lead you to the top. The number is E.
Stage 6: The Cache
N6 = 48° x6´ where x6 = x4 - (E * 4 - 5) / 1000
E6 = 016° y6´ where y6 = y4 - (E * 5 - 9) / 1000
(Att: Take the minutes of stage 4 as basis). Good
luck!
To go back to civilization you can use the same way back to
"Nikolai Tor" or you can go to "Lainzer Tor" which is a little bit
shorter...
The cache initially contains:

October 3 by hm1 (345 found) Das schöne Wetter musste unbedingt ausgenutzt werden und so entschlossen wir uns mit Team andi151278 diesen Cache anzugehen. Die Runde hat uns sehr gefallen und uns schöne Platzerl gezeigt. Nur bei der letzten Station haben wir uns irgendwo vertan. Der Platz wurde aber auch so erraten und der Cache war dann sofort gefunden.Vielen Dank, Christa & Harald

TFTC
[view this log] | October 1 by PlanetEarth (1915 found) The hideout was destroyed by wild boars and the cache remained uncovered on the ground. I found a new hiding place only some meters away. Therefore the formula for the final was slightly changed and the hint adapted. A new printout is recommended.The hunt can continue! Happy caching, PlanetEarth
