Captain's Special Nr. 4 aka The Tammerkoski rapids Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Geocache Description:

This is an easy four part multi cache. Distance between first and last points are about 600 meters and I think it takes about 30 minutes to find this.

Like the previous Captain's Special caches, and like all the forthcoming Captain's Special caches, this cache is hidden with unusual way...

It is estimated that the Tammerkoski rapids were formed 5400–6900 years ago as the waters of the present lake Näsijärvi forced a passage to lake Pyhäjärvi through the lowest part of the Pyynikinharju ridge.

There are three falls in the Tammerkoski rapids: the 7.3-metre upper fall, the 7-metre middle fall and the 3.7-metre lower fall.

The Tammerkoski rapids provided a new source of energy for the industrialization that emerged towards the end of the 18th century, resulting in the establishment of a new town in 1779.

The building of the rapids: Tampella’s power plant in 1914 and Finlayson’s power plant in 1928 at the upper fall. In 1932 a power plant was built in the middle fall, and another powerplant was built in the lower fall in 1937. The Ministry of the Environment has declared the industrial landscape of the Tammerkoski rapids one of Finland's national landscapes.

This multicache will take you to the walk around the heart of Tampere. It starts from the upper course of Tammerkoski and shows you this national landscape. The final cache is a surprise.

Point 1.
The given coordinates will take you to the small park near the upper course of Tammerkoski. There you should find a text with a latitude, two years under eagle and also a group of cats little bit further in the same park. Write down the the latitude, the years and the number of cats. Note! In winter you may need an ice scraper and/or brush to remove the ice and snow.

The coordinates of the next point are:

N "The latitude you found".0yy where yy = left year - 1789
E 23.45.xxx, where xxx = right year - number of cats - 1102

Point 2.

Now you should be at one of the falls of Tammerkoski. Count the the number of stairsteps.

The coordinates of the next point are:

N 61.29.yyy, where yyy = (number of stairs * number of cats) + 900
E 23.45.xxx, where xxx = (left year * number of stairs) - 13764

Point 3.

Now you should be on the bank of the stream, near a statue. Count the birds and mammals you see. Not the living ones, but those bronze ones. Mammals are south from you. Take a closer look at the them, there may be more mammals than you think. Write down the number of mammals and birds.

The coordinates of the final points are:

N 61.29.yyy where yyy = (number of mammals * 100) + 217
E 23.45.xxx where xxx = (left year * stairs * birds) - 28144

Point 4.

Find your way close to the final point and read the encrypted hint. Do not try to search the cache, before you decrypt the hint.

But do not decrypt it too early, as it may spoil your experience.

Note! There is time restrictions in searching this cache:
At the moment, you may search it from monday to friday, between 09:00 and 16:00
