Hidden Cougar #1 is located in a natural area with gorgeous views,
at 6558 feet. Look for animal tracks while you look for the cache!
Be sure to take your time as you hike up the intial part of the
trail--it's steep, but not too hard if you don't rush. On the
course, you'll be in fresh air and in natural landscape with huge
boulders, cacti, deer and bobcat prints, and junipers, with a
sweeping view of Albuquerque, Mt. Taylor and the Tram. Be sensitive
to the environment when you're cross country off the intitial part
of the course. From the parking area at the Tram ($1 to park),
there's a sign at N35 11.420 W106 28.755. Walk to a water meter
cover at N35 11.389 W106 28.676, then to an old metal post at N35
11.358 W106 28.649 (watch for the barbed wire near the ground).
Follow the faint trail to an anthill at N35 11.342 W106 28.667.
Hidden Cougar #1 is at N35 11.328 W196 28.700. In addition to the
log book, I've placed pens, pencils, flashlights, keyrings,
screwdrivers and, in honor of the coming season, Christmas
decorations, in the cache. Enjoy your trek!
