This cache has been archived.

DustyJacket: Muggled for the second time.
This time they are playing with us - stealing some firetacks, rotating others, rtc.

I picked up the cache and archived it today.

Geocache Description:

Night Cache in Blue and Gray Park (easy, but muddy at times)

This cache placement is approved by Jackson County Parks and Recreation.

Not Handicap accessible   Less than 500 feet from car   Steep slope   Wear long pants   Off-trail required   No drinking water available   No restrooms

Please stay to the North of E. Drinkwater Road. South of the road is Private property. I've talked to the three households nearby so they know what is going on.

The ground is sloping; footing is dirt, loose rock and leaves. It can be dry (October) or VERY wet and muddy (December). Wear boots. A walking staff is helpful. The entire path is on a horse trail or runoff ditch. You don't have to leave the "path" except for part of the last leg.

Don't try this in daylight. You won't find it. The 'stealth' type of FireTack is designed to be invisible during the daytime.

You need a flashlight with enough batteries for up to an hour. A two AA-cell battery flashlight is about right, and a two D-cell flashlight would be more than enough. I set it up with a one LED flashlight. The firetacks reflect an IR illuminator extremely well when using NV goggles, for a fun adventure.

  • Your GPS will not help you find the cache, but you should leave it on, in "track" mode to find your way back out to your car. You CANNOT see many of the FireTacks on the way out. (Don't forget to waypoint your car.)

  • Go from the parking space to the Starting Point. (The posted coordinates for this cache.)
  • At the Starting Point, shine your light to see a FireTack where you should enter the woods.
  • Once you reach the first FireTack, look for the next one. Each tack is visible by flashlight from near the location of the previous tack. They start out close to one another, then they become much further apart. They are VERY directional, so you should hold your light on your shoulder, next to your head or eyes. Be sure to look in all directions if you don't see the next tack. It may be behind you, ..... or not. J
  • Follow from FireTack to FireTack until you reach the cache.
  • The location of the cache is the only spot marked with more than one FireTack.
  • The last leg is not straight ahead, to keep non-cachers from following the trail to the cache.
  • The cache is a smaller ammo box (30 cal).
  • Please rehide it in the same spot. Hide with the sticker away from public view.

The items to be left in the cache are: a First Aid kit with wipes and band-aids, and a logbook to sign, and a pen and pencil, all in a ziplock bag.

The initial trade contents are some DustyJacket buttons, a few silver coins, a new 2-D cell flashlight, D and AA cell batteries, a light-stick, led lights, and a few other things. It is pretty full so be sure to take something. Recommended trading goods include lights and light emitting toys.
