Geocache Description:

Travel I-68 East then take Rt. 219 South until you reach Mayhew Inn Rd. where you turn onto, then you will look for and turn onto Oakland-Sang Run and shortly thereafter you will turn onto Swallon Falls road. Look for the Swallow Falls State Park. I'm not good at giving directions on this location because I had never been there before and I am very unfamiliar with the territory.

I stumbled onto this state park while seeking other caches in Maryland today, so I decided to place one at this beautiful state park. This park has many visitors so you need to be careful when looking for the cache. It appears not many of those visitors venture to the other side of the river.

Travel through the park grounds until you reach the parking lot for the many falls located at the bottom of the hill (Swallow Falls, Muddy Creek Falls). I would recommend walking down the hill and along the stream to view the wonderful rock formations along the upper side of the trail with the river below you. There are a series of small falls until you reach Muddy Creek Falls. This is the largest waterfall in Maryland (52 feet). The cache is located on the opposite side of the falls. You must figure out how to get across. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS OVER THE FALLS!! You can walk out on the falls and stand above the river below. As you stand out there be careful and look around for a way to get across. Once you get across walk directly above (nearly straight above) the falls for approx. 100 feet the cache is located under a fallen tree hidden under some branches, bark, and leaves.

The original contents included a deck of cards, Easter Angel and a frisbee. The cache is a camoflauge plastic pipe which makes it more difficult to find. Open the end that has the black lid, the other end will not come off because it is sealed shut. If you have time you should venture down along the river and look at some of the rock formations that line the trail.
