I was minding my own business yesterday in Hobbs, getting ready for a cache maintenance trip north. I get an email from Dave (we all know which Dave - you know, the one that has a cache hidden in almost every nook and cranny of NM). Well, Dave's in Hobbs and we get together for a cup to discuss the world and caching.

I mentioned that I was heading north to fix a cache in Santa Rosa and maybe drop one on the way back. I should have known it would be trouble when Dave said "Ya know, I know a great spot for a cache......."

Well, this is it, along SR 20 between Ft. Sumner and....well, uh, absolutely nothing. You can kinda see the mountains to the west - that's the best I can say. Oh, the road is paved, although I have no idea why there is a road in the first place.

There are all sorts of sharp things here and near the cache and probably a lot more in warmer months. I would not recommend shorts at any time and take a stick to poke ahead of you. It's only a hundred feet or so off the road.

Should you happen to find yourself at the cache, Congratulations!! As a reward, I plumb filled it with two or three foreign coins. It is a micro about the size of a film canister (but not one), so bring something very small if you want to trade for one of these rare coins.

BRING YOUR OWN PENCIL!!!!

Happy Geocaching! (If you're at this cache, you must be one bored geocacher to make the drive!).

BTW, those tan and white things in the pastures are not goats, they are American Pronghorns or antelopes. You'll probably see hundreds - mostly near the road. They are so bored out here they come to the road just to wait for a geocacher to come by.....
