Geocache Description:

Well it's been about a year since we had an event in Northern Virginia. I figured I set one up for folks.

I picked Leesylvania because it was a virgin park, and it would be nice to make it convenient for the folks in Fredricksburg to attend. I also picked this park because of the train tracks running right through the middle of it in the hopes of enticing pkpaul to venture out for it.

10am to whenever.

Cache coordinates and clues for the event caches will be only be available at the event. The event caches will then be made available sometime soon afterwards for logging on-line.

I've researched the park and plan on visiting and placing at least 9 caches soon. I'll also refine the coordinates of the actual meeting place after this initial trip, and post my cell phone number a day or two prior to the event for folks who get lost.

Check back for updates.

Update 2/22/04 -

Everything is set. I was able to hide 8 caches in the park, 4 on each side of the railroad tracks. I didn't get the 9th hid because on of the trails in still closed due to damage from hurricane Isabella.

There is a $2 dollar charge to get into the park.

The event cache coordinates have been updated to correspond to a picnic pavilion. Based upon the traffic in the park, and info from a ranger, I don't expect there to be a problem.

I'll have plenty of sheets made up with the coordinates of the eight caches I placed. These sheets will be available in the pavilion until at least 2 pm, so don't worry about coming late. My cell phone number will on them, just in case you have a problem finding a cache and need a hint. I don't think I made them too tough however. The caches will be posted on-line sometime soon after the event.

As a special bonus, the DoC ART travelling cache GCD079 will be placed in the park during the event. You will only be able to hunt for this if you've got a wireless web rig, because if multiple people do it will be hidden and rehidden multiple times during the event.

REMEMBER - Do not go anywhere near the railroad tracks!

Here are some answers to FAQ:

The event is not officially a pot luck. However you are encouraged to picnic, and if you brought enough for others...

Dogs are allowed in the park and on the trails, but please familiarize yourself with the regulations. (visit link)

There is a playground and an excellent visitors center/museum near the pavilion.

I thank everyone who has e-mailed me with offers to set up the event. Although, I didn't take anyone up on those offers, if there are that may people with the energy to set something like this up, maybe I won't have to do it three times in a row. (hint, hint)

There is also going to be a special surprize I'm not going to even hint about before hand, so don't even ask.

See you there!!!
