I have set up what I think is the first GPS Cache / Stash in MA state. It is a "suburban cache", easy to reach from anywhere in the greater Boston area. The location easy to get to on foot but slightly off the beaten path. There is some treasure that will be amusing to Boston-area residents. Also, head 100 meters South and 100 meters North for some great area views!

254 ft elevation.

Good hunting!

Note from g-o-cashers: Please don't leave Travel Bugs in this cache. The exposed location of this cache means that many non-cachers visit the container, sign the log and in some cases take travel bugs. I'm going to leave it this way because I think it is important to preserve the original location, but it is not safe to leave bugs here.

Proud to add this notch to my ever expanding belt! Came up here with my good friend/housemate for a number of reasons. Primarily it was for him to show me this splendid elevation referred to as Horn Pond Mountain as he is a lifelong resident of Woburn. Also, completing the 1st cache in the state was something I've been meaning to do for a long time now. Finally, I picked up a new TB in Braintree yesterday and was anxious to place it somewhere a good, legitimate distance away. The TB is an Indiana Jones Lego figure and his goal is to be as adventuresome as possible (competing with another one), figured this fit that category for the most part. Interesting abandoned water works up top, as I was making my way across the "dam" just to check out the structure while on approach to GZ, I looked down at the GPS that read 6 feet, looked a little more down and there it was! We took some time after signing the log and placing the TB to conceal the cache to prevent further muggling. Whomever picks up the TB should try to get a picture of it up here because both of us lacked devices. Thanks!

Made a good look for this one with HBue et al. but couldnt find it because of the snow... at least I'm blaming the snow. Ill be back for this one. Also, I had no idea that the cache was so old, 2000!

Live only 2 miles from here and hadn't been up her for many years. The cache was in the open and upside down. The writing log was wet, but luckily it is water proof. I replaced it in tight. Thanks. Some of the best views around.

23:03 - Wow, how cool to find the oldest in MA tonight! What an adventure it turned out to be. After I found a parking place down the road a little ways at a nearby gas station, I walked on down to the trailhead in some light flurries. I briefly thought about turning around in case it got worse, but I had already driven 45 minutes from my hotel to try to find this one.

After donning my hat and gloves, I headed into the woods and started up the hill. Not knowing the area, I almost tried bushwacking several times, but I stopped knowing that it is usually best to wait on that until you have explored the area some. I was surprised at how nice and visible the trails were at night and in the snow. It was fun hiking up the hill in the snow, we just don't get snow like this down in Georgia.

While deciding on the best approach to the cache I found the other one nearby. The trail to that was not as well defined, so I had to trudge throught the sbow for that one. Then I came back down the hill to scout out the approach to the cache. Bush-wacked until I was about 60-75 feet from the cache and decided that there was probably a better way. Finally found the correct way to the cache and looked around and figured where I would place it and checked there. I wish that I had not felt as rushed as I did so that I could have checked out some of the logs, but I was getting a little tired (finally got into Boston around 12:30am and to the hotel about 3 this morning) and cold. Replaced and happily strode back down the trail to the car.

The gas station had closed while I was away so it was a little dark. I went to the car and started unloading my gear when I saw an unmarked WPD police car drive by, you can usually spot them right away. So not only did I manage to snag the first in MA today, I also managed to snag my first caching interview by law enforcement's finest. After I saw them drive by I figured that they would probably turn around and come check out the fellow in the dark hat over by the passenger side of that car in a dark parking lot. Spent the next 10 minutes explaining why I was out in the cold and talking to the officers. He thought I was a little crazy out hiking in the snow in blue jeans and tennis shoes, hey I'm from Georgia, we just don't have snow like this and the shoes were mostly waterproof. What an adventure it all turned out to be. Thanks for the cache, the fun, the adventure and the memories.
