MidSouth CITO ver 2.0
Everyone is invited to participate in the
Second Annual Geocaching Cache In - Trash Out Event on April 17, 2004.
We will plan to start gathering around 9:00am, but you can come and participate in the event any time from then to sunset.

Our chosen CITO park for this event is Shelby Farms. Most of us have cached here before and many have commented that they would like to be able to give back to this wonderful park in some way. Well, now is your chance.

At 4500 acres, Shelby Farms is the largest urban park in the United States, twice the size of Central Park in New York City and the Golden Gate Recreational Area in San Francisco combined. I find it to be a magnificent sanctuary from the grind of urban/suburban life.

There are already several caches at the park. Some of these will have trash bags stashed in them before the event. With the current cache density in the area, I don't think we will need to worry about placing any new caches for event day.

We are working with park staff to identify areas to target for clean-up. Shelby Farms is so pleased to have us help out in the park that they are providing our trash bags for the day! Coordinates for four or five starting points will be available at the picnic shelter on event day.

We'll break for lunch around noon. If we're lucky, the picnic shelter will still be available. If not, there's a large meadow and an amphitheater within view of the shelter.

There will probably be waivers for everyone to sign before heading out to work. It's a standard waiver that the park has all volunteers read and sign.

--Cache In Trash Out Prizes--
Anyone who has something prize-worthy --Geocaching T-Shirts, Stickers, Patches, Movie Tickets, Gold Bullion, etc-- can bring it with you to the event & drop it in the big ammo can. Last year certificates were awarded in several categories, including: Most Trash Carried Out, Largest Single Piece of Trash and Youngest Cacher Present. If you have suggestions for this year's certificates, post a note or send me an e-mail.

Hope to see you all there! This should be a fantastic event!

Oh, here's a map of Shelby Farms in PDF format.

Notes
-This is an all weather event. Dress appropriately. Unless the forecast calls for another Hurricane Elvis, we'll be doing our thing.
-As noted, the March of Dimes Walk America will be taking place in the park the same day as our event. Park officials assure me that it will not be a problem.
-Congratulations to mndvs737 on the 'other' event being held April 17!
