Rock Town, Crockford- Pigeon Mountain WMA, Georgia
Difficulty Factor: 3

GGA 2002 Outstanding Cache

This is the stash that killed my cheap digital camera. This one combines a stash hunt and a maze game. The stash is hidden on the far side of a karst feature that consists of an approximately one to three acre maze of 20 to 40 foot high, tight narrow canyons that criss-cross and interconnect. Just to make life interesting, think about what you will get as far as satellite coverage while you're in there:) A compass might help... It's a 1.2 mile, flat and level, hike to Rock Town.

Okay, you could 'climb' the rocks and use your GPS, but that's up to you.

Once you work your way through the maze, the stash is in a crevice between two (three?) rocks that are each more or less the mass of a hippopotamus. There will be a small cave\rock shelter about 50 feet away and located about 15\20 feet up the cliff face (with a tree growing out of it) overlooking the stash. Sorry about the lack of pictures! I'm going to be in the area this weekend and will try to get up there with a camera.

Cache Logs
November 9 by WingsAndTales (1055 found)
I wanted to wait until I got home and could look at my pictures before I logged this one. By the description of the location and pictures taken by other cachers, I was in the right place but I couldn't find the cache. I have been looking for older caches to meet the requirements of the Jasmer Challenge(GC20B2T) which are a cache hidden in every month sice the site was started. I live in Colorado but was in Atlanta for work and noticed that there were several caches in the area that would help. I had most of a day to myself and easy access to a rental car. This has to be a personal best for longest distance traveled for a DNF. I'll post some pictures and email the owner to see if I was close.

ALL - Thanks for reporting that the cache needs a new container. I actually have a new one ready and just need to find time to head out there to replace it. I hope to do it by the end of the year.

Our first time here. Wasn't sure what we would find. A great walk with a bit of cloud cover to keep it pleasant. This is an awesome area especially for 11 year old twin boys. They climbed and squeezed to their harts content, After a bit of frustration we finally found the cache. I knew I had to find this one because this is not one you just say "I'll grab this one next time". However since we missed the "pedestals of Rock Town", we will definitely be back. We did pick up "On the way to Rock Town".

The cache was half open and very wet inside. The plastic bag holding the cache contents was wet as well. The log was in a second plastic bag was dry. It really could use a new container like a lock and lock. We signed the log and too a geocoin. It was a wonderfull after noon. TFTC SL

Been wanting to snag some of these "old timer" caches for a while. A morning trip to Dalton was all the excuse I needed! Got Iron Horse and Rock Town off of my to-do list. It was a beautiful day for mid-July - 80 & breezy. Cache was an easy find. Brought lunch and ate it "on the rocks". Daughter took Spiderman, left Bee Movie buzzer.

Thanks for the GRRRR8 hunt!

This was one of the coolest hikes we have been on..Have to do some research on how these were formed.
This may be the oldest cache we have found as well. Lolli-pop travle bug is on his way to Florida. We will use sunscreen!
